MINISTER ASKS ONE VOICE FOR THEIR IDEAS ON NPA ACCOUNTABILITY
A letter from Richard Benyon MP (Minister for Natural Environment and Fisheries at DEFRA) asks to hear more of the ideas “One Voice” members have on how to achieve greater accountability for National Park Authorities.
Our letter of reply asks for wider public consultation in view of the high level of comments from the general public placed on the “Spending Challenge” , “Your Freedom” and Defra’s “Structural Reform Plan” websites.
The Minister’s reply has confirmed (i) that only English National Parks are subject to the Review and (ii) he has encouraged NPAs to ensure that opportunities for local consultation are fully utilised.
Your ideas and comments on the government websites have already been passed onto the Minister, and the Secretary of State for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs will have receive additional comments in our recent Petition (The Minister’s Acknowledgement letter to the Petition).
The online survey is designed to take account of the differences between each National Park/Broads because we know there will not be a “one size fits all” solution to the current democratic deficit within all Authorities.
It is open to all individuals who live, work or visit any English National Park or The Broads (although we have made provision for ‘other’ National Park residents to take part).
In order to reach as many residents as possible One Voice is now looking for Community Partners from National Parks & Broads areas to help promote the survey to a wider audience. If you are interested in joining us please send us an email.
The survey will give valuable feedback on more than just the 6 Defra questions and the results will form the basis of the ONE VOICE official response.
