Julian Smith: To ask the Secretary of State for
Environment, Food and Rural Affairs what recent representations she has
received on the accountability to the public of governance structures of
national parks. [9838]
Richard Benyon: Since the end of May two
parliamentary questions have been received on this issue, both of which were
from my hon. Friend the Member for New Forest West (Mr Swayne). The first was
answered 21 June 2010, Official Report, column 30W. The second is due to
be answered 22 July. Mr Swayne has also written on behalf of a constituent
about this issue.
I had an opportunity to discuss accountability when I
recently visited the Northumberland National Park Authority and have since
exchanged letters with the English National Park Authorities Association on the
issue.
